New Apple TV May Deliver 'Game Store'

New Apple TV May Deliver 'Game Store'

As MMi reported Monday morning, Apple is said to be actively planning to release a new set-top box (Apple TV) and may reach a deal with cable provider Comcast to establish a groundbreaking streaming platform in the process.

But there was another morsel of information nestled away beneath the bigger story involving Comcast today. According to knowledgeable sources close to the next-gen Apple TV, the product will launch with an array of new offerings, including a "Game Store" optimized for the refreshed Apple TV platform.

At this time, it isn't clear if access to the Apple App Store will also be possible. Additionally, it remains to be seen if the new Apple TV will serve up other long-rumored innovative input methods - motion controls, voice controls, etc. But we may know soon, as the refreshed Apple TV could be here within weeks.

Despite consistently strong sales for the device, the Apple TV hasn't received a hardware update in two years.
