Apple May Keep 8MP Sensor for iPhone 6 Rear Camera

While most Apple loyalists prefer it when Apple upgrades every conceivable component in products when refreshes are announced, Apple may stick with the 8MP sensor for the next-gen iPhone 6 rear camera.

Sources tell The China Post today that Apple currently has no plans to boost the resolution of the rear camera for the next flagship iPhone. Instead, Apple will focus on improving optical image stabilization. So while the hardware may stay largely the same, the quality of its function will be improved.

According to Nomura Securities, Apple decision to hold off on upgrading to the 16MP sensor was based on the design requirement to "retain the handset's more portable form factor."

Today's report did not provide specifics with regard to when consumers can expect the iPhone 6 to drop, but most industry analysts and supply chain sources believe that Apple will stick with its fall release cycle and introduce the next flagship in September or October of this year.
