Apple TV 2 Goes Untethered for 5.3
There appears to be some good news for Apple TV 2 owners who haven’t yet updated to version 6.0 yet. FireCore recently updated its Seas0nPass utility to apply an untethered jailbreak to Apple TVs that are still running firmware version 5.4, which is essentially equivalent to iOS 6.1.4.
As some of you may already know, the tool has for a long time offered a tethered jailbreak to the 5.3 software. Thanks to recent developments in the jailbreak community, it’s now capable of an untethered hack, which means restarts and power ups/downs should be much easier going forward.
Team FireCore made the following announcement:
The new version of Seas0nPass is 2.4 and the change log for this version can be found below:
- Added support for untethered Apple TV 5.3
- Improved reliability of installation process
- Improved diagnostic reporting
- Other various fixes and improvements
For those of you who may have updated to version of 6.0 or later, today is your lucky day. It looks like Apple is still signing version 5.3 so you could grab the downloads and install it manually in iTunes by using Control/Alt + Restore.
One thing to note here is that this is for the second-generation Apple TV only. The third-gen set-top box has not been jailbroken yet. Those of you who have an Apple TV 2 can download the latest version of Seas0nPass from the company’s website (just hit the source link below).
